Specify recipients
After creating an Event CommsFlow, you need to enable communication channel(s) and specify who will receive your CommsFlow message.
- In the Select Recipients section, start by enabling a switch to activate a communication channel (e.g., Email, SMS, Slack, etc.).
- Next, specify recipient(s) of the CommsFlow message:
- Email and SMS:
- In the Send Emails | SMS To field, select an email address or mobile number.
- In the Incident Roles field, select a role to receive a direct message.
- Slack
- In the Send to Users/Groups field, select a user or user group.
- In the Send to Channels field, select a Slack channel where the message will be broadcast.
- In the Send to Incident Channel field, enable the checkbox to send the message to the dedicated Slack channel for the incident.
- In the Incident Roles field, select one or more roles to receive the message. All users assigned to a role will receive the message.
- Email and SMS:
In the example below, we enabled the Slack communication channel, and specified that the message should be sent to user "Dennis Sheehan," the General and dedicated incident channels, and all technical leads.
Create message
The Create Message section is used to define the actual message and, optionally, include a subject. Global variables can also be included in both fields (see below).
- Compose message
- In the Subject field (optional), enter a subject for the message.
- In the Message field (required), enter a message for delivery and, if needed, include a global variable to include customized content.
- Preview message
- In the Message Preview section, confirm accuracy of your message's details.
- Click Next.
Using global variables
- To add more customized content to a subject or message, click the + plus icon. This pulls data from the Blameless system and inserts it into a subject and/or message at the location of the cursor.
- The Global Variables slide-out menu appears.
- Select a flow, incident, or retrospective variable as needed.
For example, to display a link to a retrospective, select the Current Retrospective Link {{retrospective.url}} option.
